This promotes the environmental aspect because not everyone has to buy a car to reach their possibly short distances, which are not so easy to reach by local transport, e.g. to visit the grandparents who live in the country. Another factor would be the cost. Not everyone can afford a car, let alone keep it. By being able to reserve an appointment only for certain trips and to pay the costs, it is clearly more lucrative to enter a private car sharing community instead of buying your own car.
